Green living is easier said than done. There are many facets to green living that need to be considered before you can do a radical change of your approach to life. First, you need to realize that green living is not just leaving your car at home occasionally once in a week and taking public transportation instead. There is a lot more to it than that. When you attempt the goal of green living, you are making a stand and demanding that the foods that you eat are healthy and free of pesticides, the clothes that you wear is not contaminated, and the water that you drink is free of chlorine.

In addition to this, green living requires lowering the amount of energy that your equipment consume, embracing solar power, and changing your way of life so that you do not damage the environment. If you own your own home, this can call for some costly changes. Your old top loading washing machine would need substituted by a machine that wastes much less water and electricity. If you live in a sunny area, you would need to take advantage of your roof space to install solar panels. Obviously, green living can be done cheaply. Nonetheless, for the serious individual, there is quite a lot of planning and changes involved in making a home environmentally friendly.

Green living can affect making changes to the cleaning products you use as well. Cleaning materials are one of the topmost sources of pollutants made from a home. Spray tins add fumes to the air, liquid mixtures add chemicals to the water that is flushed down the toilet or sink. The chemicals wiped onto paper towels end up in landfills, which then contaminate the water and soil near the trash dumps. By changing the cleaning products you use, you can drastically lower the amount of harm that is done to the environment. The more biodegradable items you purchase and use, the nearer to a state of green living you achieve.

Having a green home is not the only thing that you can do to aid the environment. Purchase products that are attested as doing little damage to the environment when they were made. Purchase cleaning supplies that are biodegradable and do not cause long term harm to the waterways and the life that lives in those waters. Do not buy products that harm the environment. If you do your part by owning a green home, you can be a living example that it can be done without sacrificing comfort and ease of living.

There are other many elementary things that you can do that won’t cost you much, or any, money and allow you to start a green living way of life. Recycle everything you can and throw away as little as possible. Purchase foods that do not have excessive packaging. There are many butcheries and fruit markets that use recyclable wrap when selling their goods. Drive your motor vehicle less and learn about how the choices you make in your life affect the environment.

It’s a common misconception that living green is more expensive than not. But, if you look at it from a different perspective you can see that you can do so with out too much effort of with out spending a lot of money.

I have found 5 simple tips to help contribute living green to reducing your carbon footprint without lightening your wallet…

1. USE COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHT BULBS – This is an item that is a little pricey but if you attempt it bit by bit or room by room its not as hard on the wallet. Important here is it promotes living green. Focus on rooms that get the most use : living room, kitchen, family room or office.

2. UNPLUG ELECTRONICS WHEN NOT IN USE – This tip is a great way to save energy usage that essentially costs you no more than a bit of time, this promotes living green.

A good rule or thumb is to ask yourself what appliances need to be re-set after a power outage. These are items you need to address. If you’re not sure if an appliance is an energy sucker, just unplug it. If its not plugged in, it can’t draw electricity. So keep in your mind to have a living green concept.

3.USE CLOTH SHOPPING BAGS – This is one of the easiest tips I have for you. You would be astonished at how many folks don’t do it. This also promotes living green.

4. USE NATURAL CLEANING PRODUCTS – Now don’t go and throw out all of your cleaning products, that would defeat what we are trying to do. Use up what you have and before you run out, go through this list, stock up and prepare your solutions so you’ll be ready to go. Living green means to love natural cleaning products.

Baking Soda – Baking soda is a great all-purpose, non-toxic cleaner. It cleans, deodorizes, scours, polishes and removes stains. (Note – There’s a great article on this site about baking soda, “The Manifold Magic of Baking Soda”)

Borax – It deodorizes, removes stains and boosts the cleaning power of soap. It prevents odors and mold too. Great alternative for those who do not want to use bleach.

Cornstarch – cleans and deodorizes carpets and rugs, and can be used in place of baby powder.

Ketchup -cleans copper.

Lemon juice – great for whitening items and removing grease and stains on aluminum and porcelain.

Pure Soap – cleans almost anything and is mild.

Salt – regular table salt makes an abrasive, but gentle, scouring powder.

Washing Soda – A great disinfectant and cuts grease well too.

White Vinegar -great for whitening, cleaning hard surfaces and windows, and shining metal surfaces. Also removes mildew, stains, grease and wax build up

5.STOP USING PAPER TOWELS – This is a tough one when you have little ones. But all this needed if you want to have a living green concept.

With all the above tips you can have a cheap living green. Happy living green and save the earth.

As a supporter of Green living, you carry out your life in an eco-friendly and responsible manner, an attempt to minimize the size of your ecological footprint. Green living includes the conservation of resources, recycling, sustainability, green construction, alternative energy, organic food choices and other environmental topics.

Green Lifestyle – Each choice you make requires a consideration of the consequences of the choice, and the way that the decision will affect the environment and all living things within it. Ecological consciousness and care for the earth are of paramount importance in the decision-making process.By minimizing their “ecological footprints” – the extent to which they create an environmental impact, proponents of green living hope to preserve the earth for future generations of human beings and other life.

Green Technology – Green technology is essential for the conservation of energy, soil health, green building, environmentally preferred purchasing, green chemistry and green nanotechnology.Developing green technology includes toxic-waste-eating trees, smart electricity grids and floating environmental sensors. Then there is the alternative-energy home fueling station that could jump-start the long-awaited hydrogen economy. This technology may seem far out-but it will probably be here a lot sooner than we think.

Green Building – Green building is basically the practice of using eco-friendly building materials and designing homes and offices to be more energy efficient.A zero-energy building has no net energy consumption when measured across a year’s time. It uses alternative energy sources like solar and wind power. Both zero- and low-energy buildings are great for green living.

Green Energy – Green technologist aims produce energy without burning all the world’s coal and using all the world’s fossil fuels and natural resources. Alternative energy is related to green living as it includes energy alternatives to traditional fossil fuels. The main drive behind alternative energy is to find renewable, eco-friendly sources of energy like solar or wind power.

Organic Food – Organic food refers to food items that are produced, processed and packaged without using chemicals. Organic food is increasingly becoming popular due to its perceived health benefits over conventional food. Droves of people are turning to organic produce as a way to feel safer about the foods they eat. People are worried about the foods they put into their bodies. With all of the reports of food poisoning from fruits and vegetables, many people are worried about what they are eating.

Renewable Energy – Strictly speaking, renewable energy is energy that is replenished at the same rate it’s used. As the center of green living, renewable energy encourages use of solar, wind, and other alternative forms of energy.

Solar Energy – Solar energy is the conversion of the sun’s rays to energy, very good for green living. Active solar technology uses electrical or mechanical equipment to convert the sun’s rays into usable energy for heating or whatever. Passive solar technology does not use any outside non-solar energy.

Sustainablility – Sustainability, central to green living, is about preserving the environment and natural resources for years to come. It is the process of maintaining a small ecological footprint so that one’s life has no permanent detrimental effect on the earth. There are specific fields within it like sustainable architecture, sustainable agriculture, and sustainable development.Green living habits are worthwhile no matter what our circumstances – privileged or not.

It involves utilizing the power of Sun to generate energy. Solar energy is an ideal alternate for perishable energy resources like coal and crude oil that are being used for decades. The demand for substituting the conventional energy resources arises because of the decreasing stocks of such energy and their disadvantageous affect on earth’s eco-system. Major part of solar energy is occupied by the water bodies like oceans and rivers and some other processes like photosynthesis on the earth. Solar energy is used to develop water cycles, food and vital atmosphere that is crucial to support life on earth. Solar energy is now being utilized on daily basis to produce different forms of energy. Solar panels are used to convert the power from sun into electrical energy, which is then used to run different electrical appliances in the homes and the workplaces throughout the world. Solar panels are also used to convert the solar power into heat energy, which is then utilized to heat the water in the water heating systems like boilers and geysers. Solar cookers are used to convert the solar power into heat energy, which is then used for cooking and heating foods. Solar cookers are also utilized for heating and boiling water, pasteurization of milk and drying food items. The temperature generated by these cookers can range anywhere between 90 to 150 degrees celsius.

Large numbers of wind turbines are built throughout the world in order to capture the kinetic energy of wind, which is then converted to electrical energy to power industrial units and large residential areas. The latest technology called vertical axis wind turbines that just require to be pointed towards the wind’s direction in order to generate electricity for homes is gaining in popularity across the world. Home based wind energy system includes a wind turbine and generator that are mounted on top of the tower and the associated controls and equipments that are located in separate cabin. There are three wind energy systems that can be used for generating electricity for home. First is Off-Grid or Stand Alone system. This system is installed when your home is not connected to the grid. You will only use the electricity generated by the Off-Grid system. Second is Grid-Tied or On Grid system that comes with battery back up. With this system, you can use the power supplied by grid as well as electricity generated through the wind energy system. With battery back up you can store the energy and use it in case of a power outage. Third is Grid-Tied or On Grid system without battery back up. This works the same way as the second system except you can’t use it during the power outage as there is no back up system installed.

The air we breathe is not always fresh. Everyday we try to freshen it up with various artificial smells that come out of deodorants and other items that are presupposed to make our air fresh. But is is even incomparable with the harm factories and traffic fumes do the invironment and to be exact to the air. If you live in the center of the city you can’t even open your windows without noticing the slash and soot on the window-sill. Definitely you dust it away but don’t you think that this is the air you are always breathing? Unfortunately this is our reality and the reality we have chosen ourselves as we are always looking for better ways to ease our life whereas our health suffers more and more. You like the city center hassle? Great! So you should like living there and breathe in the poisonous air, drink the dusty water unless it is being purified by Noritz and forget about any green plant as the center is often free of it. So how to make your life a bit more “close to nature”? How to make it a normal life with crystal clear water, green plants around and the soothing atmosphere? The answer is – no way! If you really want to be close to nature – move to the country. But if you want to make your city life more healthy – install ductless air conditioners. Such conditioners are not just eco-friendly and do not make any harm to the environment but they also provide you with clean air, the air that is absolutely useful to breathe in. Sanyo air conditioners present only the latest modern features that extend far then just cooling the air around.

Standard corrugated boxes are also an item used everyday whether it will be applied to package products, to send to shops or for people to place their products for storage or transportation. This goes to the reuse of scarce resources, prevention of wastage of valuable material, and to cut down energy use and pollution. Recycling is the 3rd factor of the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle waste hierarchy.

Although almost all waste product can be reprocessed, there are a few which are either easier to recycle or need to be recycled as they are more of a threat to the environment. They are more energy effective than others and home solar panels give you the ability to have a dramatically lower energy and electric bill. In most places there is a lot of sun energy available for household use. While you probably aware of electricity generating solar panels, there’s another available choice which uses heat (traditional solar panels use light) from the sun.

Contrary to photovoltaic solar panels which transform sunlight into electricity, heat solar system uses sun’s infrared radiation (the “heat” we feel) to warm your house or water. It allows you to save money on your heating needs by using free sun energy.

Here is how heat solar panels work. Sun heats up special panel and water or special antifreeze liquid grabs heat from the panel and transfers it to your water tank. Your water tank instead of heating up the cold water heats up warm water and you save money on your bill.

During the winter on a sunny day such panels are quite warm, but when it’s cloudy or at night they of course become cold and winter can freeze in there and damage the system, that’s why if you are going to use heat solar panels in a cold climate you need to have special antifreeze running in there.

If you think that there is not enough sun energy during the winter months to heat anything think again. Next winter look at your south facing roof and you will notice that if roof inclination angle is big enough (45 degrees or so) then it is free from snow, because snow melts down and falls from the roof.

There are another factors to keep in mind. First of all you should have some part of your roof facing south (if you live in the Northern hemisphere). Trees or nearby buildings should not block the sun (roof should not be in shade during the day).
